sweat + dirt is a long-term documentary project building a photographic archive of Black equestrian culture across the United States. The project began in 2017, years before the mainstream cultural moment that has since brought Black cowboy culture to wider attention, and has since documented communities in California, Louisiana, and Michigan. In the summer of 2026 the project expands to Philadelphia with a residency at RAIR, where I will photograph the Fletcher Street Urban Riding Club.
